2-23  9:30PM Update

Peeps,

Just like the disco night at Comisky Park in Chicago another one of these Donna Summer records are going to be broken – 6.4* (degrees) as I write with a low of -3* and a wind chill of -15 below for some parts of NNJ. Other parts of NNJ (West Milford, Sparta) are going to the -10’s  and this is epic cold for this time of the year. Record breaking cold indeed. We will finish in the top 5 of the coldest February temperatures recorded since 1870 – yeah no kidding!!

Cold and below average the whole week  – hell we are below average until mid march temperature wise with a day here or there in the first two weeks that will be at or near normal. The big storm potential seems to be waning but we have the Thursday time frame to watch even though it is on life support and we have March 1-5th time frame to watch as well. You never know what old Momma has up her sleeve and peeps there is a huge -EPO that will be sending us cold air. IF we get a coastal or what is SWFE (south western flow event) we could see good size snows – timing is crucial for these.

Mr. Sun will be higher in the sky (like the folks hanging at the coffee houses in Denver) and we are seeing the affects of this with its brightness and warmth when there is no wind. The sun position in the sky in late Feb and early March is actually what it is during late to mid October. Snow needs to pour to stick during the day and needs to come at night if there is to be accumulation on roads.

Sat. into Sun. snow gave us 5″ before it compacted and would have been 8-10″ if we did not change over for a few hours – 10PM until 1AM. Cold air hung tough big time as CNJ and just south had a frickin ice storm with .25 to .3″ ice accretion.  This accumulation gives us 37.62″ for our season – let’s say 38″ and this is just above the average snowfall for this season which makes three years in a row for above average snowfall and we are not done yet.

Updates to come.
