Happy Winter Solstice!! The most wonderful time of the year!
It has been one of the top ten coldest Decembers on record and every warmup in the long-range modeling a stupid weather app that gives you the 10-day forecast has been wrong temperature wise. For example, this week was to be in the low 50’s with rain. Well guess what – today was upper 30’s as it will be the next few days and Friday the 27th was to be 51 degrees with rain as of last night and today it is going to be 28 degrees and a snowstorm. We are perpetually cold pattern, what we call a +TNH pattern. Cold shots galore.

Snow Royalty is as follows: Here ye hear ye the following royalty have been beckoned to the King Snow Headquarters for a meeting – Duchess of OBC (Lardiere), Panther Valley (Magreto), Middletown NJ (Cuz Laura), Chester NY (B Smith); Duke of Ramsey (G Bach), Willy land (PB); Prince (Asplint); Princess (Zungoli); Queen (Cannizaro) and King (ME) are all ready for what I am about to discuss. If not, I shall demerit or strip you of your title like Fr. Ed Frizzell would do at my old ahunt DBT!!!

We have a minor clipper system coming through early AM producing a couple of inches of snow tomorrow that will magnificently whiten the ground and may cause some slick road conditions to start the morning commute.
Snowfall amounts are going to be 1-3″ for the NNJ region.
GFS is most robust
EURO not as robust but still gives about 2″
Laughingly the NAM may have the best idea with amounts
Latest HRRR says Nam and GFS I am with you
Start time is about 6AM from West to East.
Heavier rates are from about 10AM-2PM
7-8AM about 1/3″ per hour
8-9AM about 1/2′ per hour
9-10AM the same solid 1/2 per hour
11AM to 2PM are all aboy 1/2″ per hour snowfall rates
Schools have a VERY tough call in NNJ because MANY have a minimum day and with the snowfall rates heavier at dismissal well I wouldn’t want to make the call and have accidents etc on my hands. I see many calling a snow day.
This will definitely whiten the ground for a white Xmass peeps!
Friday we have what could be a classic NJ snowstorm with 4-8″ plus snowfall if all goes right. More to come eon this. Starting Friday afternoon and lasting through Early AM Saturday!
