Pattern Change?

Winter is looking to make a turn for the better next weekend. We have a stratospheric warming event termed a SSW, nothing to do with Global Warming so you can forget that idea even though this is that camp will use this as the reason why! This warming event happens each winter in the Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere in their respective winter which is our summer. The SSW this past winter for the Southern Hemisphere was off teh charts warm and caused the Southern Hemisphere to record one of its coldest winters since records were kept – hmmmmm don’t here much about this right? So the Indian Ocean Dipole which is a comparison of teh oceans east and west regions and what the sea temperatures are in those regions are has major impacts on our weather here as well as the Tropical Equatorial Pacific Ocean. All this warmth that has built up in these two regions is resulting in a Positive East Asian Mountain Torque (+EAMT) – where these massive mountains like the Himalayas forces this warm air up into the atmosphere (the stratosphere) and this warm air then warms the cold stratosphere. What occurs then is it, warm air rises and cold air sinks – simple physics principles right – same happens and this colder air is forced downward to the earths surface.

So why is this important? Because when you have these events taking place it forces this colder – very cold air – ever fly before and see on the monitors what the outside temps are at 35K feet??? Yes that air gets mixed down and this looks to help kick start a pattern change.

How long will it last? Maybe a few weeks in February or maybe through March!!!! These sometimes have staying power and can be harsh – lots of snowstorm opportunities adn cold weather outbreaks. I said this a while ago our weather likes 45-60 day periods and we maybe embarking on this period starting next weekend.

Plus the MJO phases are cold if this green line forecast is correct – this represents the Tropical Pacific Forcing that directly affects our weather. Phase 2 and 3 are cold- very cold for February again if true

Well it would be fitting to have ANOTHER Super Bowl Snowstorm and on Groundhogs Day LOL!!! Double Whamy!!!

If this is being shown properly this is a strong storm at 971 mb!

With this pattern change we can see possible several Nor’easter storms instead of those cutting to our west bringing us wet not white but that could all change if we change this pattern which looks pretty good at this point but time will tell!

Yes this would be the THIRD Super Bowl Storm in the last 6 years dating back to 2014!! Need this Sunday night but it looks to be Sunday morning. Can we slow it down??  If the butterflies in the Southwest stop flapping their wings maybe LOL!

To my son Michael and his teammates at Penn State who earned their 1st program win last weekend against Yale (Biff and Buff LOL!). He and a few of his college friends after watching the in 2018 and the Curling team for USA win gold he said wouldn’t that be cool if we could do that!! And that is where it began. They formed the club, contacted the USA Curling Organization and Alumni and received much support.They had learn how to curl nights and adopted a charter and raised money. Went to exhibitions adn held meetings. They have 91 members ranging from Division 1 hockey players on teh Penn State Team to the Neuroscience, Mechanical Engineers, Architects and Business majors all playing and practicing this up and coming sport. They even have the USA Gold Winning team following them on Twitter and offering to do a clinic for them!!

So last weekend Skip Michael Mugno went with his mates into Yale (a seasoned team) and won their first ever match this making history.

His namesake deceased Grandfather woudl be proud and he himself started a club, well a fraternity call Skull and Pioneer at the then Paterson State College where he played/started for the basketball team for 4 years and played with Joe Clark (Stand By Me movie adn principal of Eastside HS in the early to mid 80’s), his best friend and man in his wedding Jack Moran, Bob Stolarz, Artie Bowen, Stacey Cirignano.

His old man, me the AL Q, also started a fraority (yes an combination of a fraternity and sorority – ahead of my time back then plus we had a 6:1 ratio of girls to guys = boooyahhh!) at Montclair State back in 1990, Phi Sigma Pi. I still have the charter LOL!!!

WE are so proud that our son, who was admonished for not being athletic is the VP and leader of this club that is making history. As the great Andrew Quinn said this Friday night – there will be a 30/30 about the origins of PSU CC one day in like 2050. I hope to be aorund to witness this but will be for matches they have coming up. A college athlete he is and every young athletes dream to wear their schools uniform and compete at this level. Oh and they are ranked 13th in the nation =

Crop Issues

After diving into this a bit the harvest that was below average this past fall will have an affect this upcoming spring and why? The stalks that they till and combine are seed for the next season. So what happens is the seed dies if not harvested or is bad seed – like some people I know LOL!! and they cant plant them. so it is a trickle down effect here peeps. Has anyone paid attention to teh food prices and shrinkflation that is happening? Restaurants are redoing their menus and increasing prices as they do. It has happened in many places of eatery aorund NNJ and will continue and they also have lessened the different dishes they offer. In about one to two years this crop issue will be a major food issue.

Lastly we are seeing an uptick in Shakers and we have to be careful cause this will continue and Puerto Rico, New Zealand are rocking. IF and a big but possible IF an 6.0 or greater EQ hits the Northern Coast of Puerto Rico and causes a landslide in the under sea ridge that is on the northern coast there could a massive Tsunami that woudl engulf Florida and much of the SE Coast. Has it happened before yes in the 1600’s, can it happen again – absolutely mother nature loves to repeat herself!!
