Peeps,

Today Snow

Todays snow was not much and many schools called a delayed opening and really did not need it but two weeks they needed and did not call it so it equals out. Just like nature intended it to. Registered about .3″ of snow. So we hade three snows this week- Monday 2.2″  Tuesday Snow Showers, and today’s snow. Follow this up with an arctic blast tonight through Saturday.

So what went wrong today with the snow as 1-3″/2-4″ were being predicted and being shown on all wx models? The arctic front was only about 3 hours to slow coming in that prevented the changeover from rain to snow. When it did it thumped pretty good for about 2.5 hours. Did not stick at first so we lost about an inch due to this with temps hanging around 33* and some at 32*.

 Arctic blast

A very cold blast of arctic air sweeps in tonight through Saturday with temps in the low single digits and winds chills 5-10* below zero so bundle up and wear your thermals for highs will only be in the teens manana.

Hunga Tonga Update

Folks as I said in my last update I said that time woudl tell with this as to what shakes out.

Well more scientific information is coming in and its a wowza! The blast sent ash, particulates and sulfur dioxide gases into the Stratosphere to a height of……………………………….24 miles – 128,000 feet! That will cause global cooling of about .3* Celsius overall = .54 degrees Fahrenheit, 1/2 a degree cooler. The world has recorded 3 not, 1 not 2 but 3 shockwaves that have traveled the full circumference of this beautiful God given planet three time. THREE! Australia will have some crop issues and water issues will be temporary as will in Africa as this cloud of ash travels west.

Finally have data from CALIPSO to verify height of aerosols injected from #Tonga #Volcano eruptions. Both produced stratospheric injections. 1st 1-13 eruption ~16-20 km 2nd 1-15 eruption (more violent) ~28-32 km Near estimates inferred by GOES Bt data. Imagery from

Some of the clearest imagery I’ve seen of the gravity wave from the #TongaVolcano eruption that propagated across the world. Wave reached its end inflection point in the African Sahara before reverberating back across the world. Incredible stuff.

Tonga shock wave converges and rebounds from antipodal point in North Africa. Faster than other animation because the wave front is harder to see. EUMETSAT IR data, 18 UTC 15 Jan – 2 UTC 16 Jan, 15-minute differences.

Relax

All the talk of a pattern relaxation for teh beginning of February as they are saying teh pattern breaks down, maybe it does for a week o two and then it reloads is the question or will I be working on my garden earlier than the past three years!!!

This date in History and I do remember this well!!

Have a great night and bundle up these next two days.
