Peeps,
Well, it is August already, back to school items are out in full force and the kids and teachers are gnashing their teeth!!! The summer dew has commenced like clock work as my lawn yesterday had a moderate dew already on it. Sadly, we will lose 70 minutes of sunlight this month on our way to fall in about 6 weeks.
Mother Nature has her way of balancing things out. Things happen in threes!!
#1: The temperature for the month of July, after a blistering hot start, finished 1.1 degrees below normal. Incredible that after the 1st week we were 6 degrees above normal!
#2: The rainfall was drought-busting and more like late fall and/or early spring, with a whopping 11″+ of rain for most of NNJ and the NYC metro.
#3: I am writing blogs weekly upon my retirement—LOL!!
Called this past week’s torrential rains for many. I recorded 3.19″ here, and just to my west at my old place of employment, they had 4.5″ of rain. So, my 3–5″ call was spot on for many.
Wild ehhh?
Now we have a system moving in overnight that will produce a batch of heavy thunderstorms and rains again. Flash flooding is likely, and flood watches are up for the entire state again. This should not be as bad as last week, but the fact that the grounds are saturated and the streams and rivers are running high means it won’t take much to cause some flooding. So, take it easy on the morning commute and NEVER drive through a puddle or flooded roadway if you do not know or cannot see how deep it is.
Question and tip: Do you know what causes your car to stall out in a flood? When you drive through, if you do not keep your foot on the accelerator—meaning you take your foot off the gas—the floodwater, if at the level of your muffler, will get vacuum-sucked into the muffler and then into the engine, causing it to stall and, nuts and bolts… YOU ARE SCREWED!!! Your car is done and you may be too!!!
Tip: Keep your foot on that accelerator and punch that car through the floodwater if you imbeciled your way into this situation.
- Rainfall: About 1–2″ (plus for some area if it trains over that area) is possible.
- Timing: Starting around midnight to 3 AM from SW to NE, and should be out of here by late morning.

Mind blowing statistic. To all my basbeall adoring fans!
A player could get a Hit in all 162 games…for 26 straight seasons…and he’d still be 44 hits shy of Pete Rose
