PATTERN EVOLUTION

Peeps I am going to say this now and again and again, you need to get preparations for the cold and snow that will take over a large swath of America. SAY WHAT?? Yes the reasons being the SSW- anomalous – extra ordinary sudden stratospheric warming that is going to and I have been harping on – big Thank you to Meizys for the shout out Jan 2nd at lunch – three-headed monster of the polar vortex is going to grip us.

The SPV – Stratospheric Polar Vortex is different than the TPV or troposphere Polar Vortex – they are all the same – like tomato and tomatooo right? Not quite the TPV is cold like teens and twenty’s and lows in the single digits maybe to around zero. The SPV is extremely dense cold air – highs in single digits to below zero to lows that are in the teens to thirties below zero – happened in 1994 this time of year. Sussex County reported a low of -34 degrees!!

So this week will be dry and about Normal temperatures then a more arctic front swings through Thursday and sets up the stage for next weekends storm. Could be some snow showers Friday from this clipper system as well:

The pattern after this storm is being forecasted to go into deep and I mean deep winter peeps. Snowstorm possibilities about every 4 days and brutal cold is possible.

From Pro Met John Homenuk on the pattern change

These indicators mean a cold snowy pattern.

The split flow look of this map is quite impressive and maybe archival for years to come. The STJ or Sub Tropical Jet that is our conveyor belt of moisture to feed these storm looks to start (originate) from…………….hold on here…………………..wait for it…………………………ALOHA ……………………….HAWAII!! That’s 10k miles from here!! If you think our weather is just above our heads in this area you need to see the bigger picture.

Next weekend Saturday into and through Sunday on the euro – dark green colors is heavy snow – 1″ hour snowfall rates

SPV – stratosphere polar vortex

The stratopshere is the coldest it has been according to NASA since its been keeping record -jikes!! That only dates back to 1955 era BUT it is still impressive and why……………..come on Newman you know why????

LOW FRICKIN SOLAR!!

Put snow pack on the ground and take those down a few more degrees to – that brutal would swing into our neck of the woods but the maps don’t show that interval time frame!!

Oh found it – HUMINA HUMINA

HOLY MOTHER OF COLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SPV cold I was talking about – these could be HIGH TEMPS!!!!!
Do we dare go after this record???
Kudos to Isotherm – Tom Stavola AND Uncle W from 33&Rain Wx board:

Vaso my newest weenie should be WOWING along with the Big K Dawg!

Oh and guess what Volcanoes going bango:

Explosive activity continues. Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) Tokyo warned about a volcanic ash plume that rose up to estimated 20000 ft (6100 m)

This is the 7th such plume of ash to reach this altitude in the last two weeks

Spotless Days

Lots to come so this week we see the winter pattern evolution progress in a very big positive direction;
